Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2026-06-02

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar storage technologies Route Posters uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. For broader privacy information see our Privacy Policy.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser by websites you visit. They are widely used to make sites work correctly, remember your preferences, and — in the case of advertising — to show you relevant ads across the web.

We also use localStorage, which is a browser storage area similar to cookies but not sent with HTTP requests. It stays on your device only.

2. Cookies and storage we use

Strictly necessary storage (no consent required)

Name Type Purpose Duration
rp_consent localStorage Stores your cookie consent choice ("all" or "necessary") so we don't show the banner on every visit. Until you clear site data
Editor preferences localStorage Saves your last-used poster style, colours, and layout settings in the editor. No personal data. Until you clear site data

Advertising cookies (only after "Accept all")

If you click "Accept all", Google AdSense loads and may set the following cookies:

Name Provider Purpose Duration
IDE Google (doubleclick.net) Used to show personalised ads based on your browsing activity across sites. ~13 months
DSID Google Used for signed-in users to link ad activity across devices. ~2 weeks
test_cookie Google (doubleclick.net) Checks if the browser supports cookies. Session

Google may set additional cookies not listed here. For a full list see Google's cookie policy.

3. GPS file data

Route Posters processes GPS files (GPX, TCX, FIT, KML) entirely in your browser. No file data is uploaded to our servers or stored in cookies. This is a core privacy feature of our tool.

4. How our consent mechanism works

When you first visit Route Posters, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen with two options:

  • Only necessary — we store only the consent choice in localStorage. No advertising cookies are set. No AdSense script loads.
  • Accept all — in addition to the above, we inject the Google AdSense script, which may set advertising cookies as described above.

Your choice is stored in localStorage under the key rp_consent.

5. How to withdraw consent or manage cookies

You can withdraw consent or clear cookies at any time using any of these methods:

  • Clear your consent choice: Open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to Application → Local Storage → route-posters.com, and delete the rp_consent key. The consent banner will reappear on your next visit.
  • Clear all site data: In your browser settings, find "Clear browsing data" or "Site settings" and clear cookies and storage for route-posters.com.
  • Browser-level cookie controls: All major browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely in settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).
  • Google ad personalisation: Opt out at adssettings.google.com or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use or applicable law. The "Last updated" date at the top will be revised accordingly.
