Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how 1UP Media ("we", "us"), the operator of Route Posters at route-posters.com, processes data when you use our service. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The short version: Route Posters is a 100% client-side tool. Your GPS files (GPX, TCX, FIT, KML) are parsed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to or stored on our servers. We do not require an account, and we do not store personal data ourselves.

2. Data we process

GPS files and poster data

When you upload a GPX, TCX, FIT, or KML file, all parsing and rendering happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. No file content is ever sent to our servers. We have no technical ability to access your GPS data. Your poster is generated and downloaded directly on your device.

Local storage

We use your browser's localStorage to remember:

• Your cookie/ad consent choice (key: rp_consent)
• Editor preferences such as selected style or colours (non-personal)

This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

Standard server logs

Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may log your IP address and request metadata as part of normal CDN operation. We do not process these logs for analytics purposes ourselves.

Advertising data (only after consent)

If you click "Accept all" on our cookie banner, Google AdSense will load and may set advertising cookies and collect data such as your IP address, browser type, and browsing behaviour to show personalised ads. This data is processed by Google under their own privacy policy. See section 4 below.

3. Cookies and local storage

We do not set cookies ourselves. If you accept advertising cookies, Google AdSense sets its own cookies (including IDE, DSID, and others) for ad personalisation. See our Cookie Policy for a full breakdown and instructions on how to withdraw consent or clear cookies.

4. Third-party services

The following third-party services may receive data (e.g. your IP address) when you use Route Posters:

• Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) — advertising. Loaded only after you give consent. Google may use cookies and device identifiers for personalised advertising across the web. Google Privacy Policy.
• OpenFreeMap — map tile provider for the editor's street and faded map styles. When you use the editor's map background, your browser makes tile requests that include your IP address. openfreemap.org.
• OpenTopoMap — map tile provider for the topographic map style in the editor. Same as above — tile requests include your IP. opentopomap.org.
• Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) — CDN and hosting. Processes connection data (IP address, request headers) to serve the site securely and efficiently. Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
• Google Fonts (Google LLC) — the Archivo and Anton typefaces are loaded from Google's servers, which may log your IP address.

5. Legal basis for processing

• Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)): Advertising cookies and Google AdSense are only loaded after you explicitly click "Accept all" on our cookie banner.
• Legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): Cloudflare CDN and standard hosting logs are necessary to serve the website securely.

6. Data retention

We do not store any personal data on our servers. Your localStorage data stays on your device and is under your control. Google AdSense data retention is governed by Google's own policy.

7. Your GDPR rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Erasure — ask us to delete your data.
• Restriction — ask us to restrict processing.
• Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
• Withdraw consent — you can withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage (key: rp_consent) or by clearing site data in your browser settings. This will re-show the cookie banner on your next visit.

Because we store no personal data ourselves, most requests concern data held by Google or Cloudflare, which should be directed to those providers. For any questions, contact us at [email protected].

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
