Create a hiking poster from any GPS file

Hiking produces some of the most visually distinctive GPS tracks — switchbacks up steep ridges, meandering valley paths, exposed traverse lines across cliff edges. Route Posters reads GPX, TCX, FIT and KML files from AllTrails, Komoot, Gaia GPS, Garmin, Suunto, OS Maps and any other app or device that records hiking routes, then renders the full track as a clean, stylised illustration at the centre of a customisable poster.

The editor reads stats from your file where available: distance, total walking time and elevation gain all appear on the poster in the stat layout you choose. For hikes without precise timestamps — such as planned routes exported from a mapping app before the walk — the distance and elevation stats are still shown; time and pace are simply hidden. All stat fields can be toggled on or off.

Style presets range from light paper-white layouts with a subtle map texture to dark gradient themes evoking mountain photography. The headline is fully editable — name your route, the peak you reached, or the mountain range you traversed. Download a 300 dpi print-ready PDF for A3 or A2 printing. No watermark, no account required.

How it works

  1. 1

    Export your hike GPS file

Download a GPX, TCX, FIT or KML file from AllTrails, Komoot, Gaia GPS, Garmin Connect, OS Maps, Strava, ViewRanger or any hiking app. Most apps have an "Export" or "Download GPX" button on the activity or route page.

  2. 2

    Design your poster

Upload the file and pick a style. Edit the headline and adjust colours. Choose which stats to display. Everything previews live.

  3. 3

    Download and print

Export a 300 dpi PDF or PNG. Print at A3, A2 or any poster size at a print shop or at home.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a hiking poster from a GPX file recorded on a phone?
Yes. GPS tracks recorded by hiking apps such as AllTrails, Komoot, Gaia GPS, OS Maps, ViewRanger or even the iOS Health app can be exported as GPX or KML files. Upload that file to Route Posters and the editor will draw the exact route and read any stats recorded alongside it.
Does it work for multi-day trekking routes like the Tour du Mont-Blanc?
Yes. There is no distance or duration limit. For a multi-day trek where you have separate daily GPX files, merge them into a single file using a free tool like GPSBabel before uploading to get the complete route on one poster.
What style works best for a hiking or walking poster?
Light paper-style presets ("Every Step Counts", "Push Limits") give a classic topographic map feel. For more dramatic mountain terrain, the dark "Earned, Not Given" gradient preset or the "Built by Discipline" contour theme both work well. All presets are fully customisable.
