Trail running posters from GPS files

Trail running produces GPS tracks of distinctive visual character — sinuous single-track contours, out-and-back ridge lines, looping technical descents. Route Posters reads GPX, TCX, FIT and KML files and renders the full track as a clean, stylised route illustration on a customisable poster canvas. The exact shape of your mountain run, whether a 10 km forest loop or a 115 km race across Madeira's laurel forest, appears as the centrepiece of the poster.

The editor is built for GPS files from all major trail platforms: Garmin fenix, Suunto, Coros, Wahoo Rival, Apple Watch Ultra and any app that produces GPX or FIT files. Stats including distance, total time, average pace and elevation gain are read directly from the file. For trail runs with significant climbing — events like the UTMB CCC course with 6,000 m of gain — the elevation figure displays exactly as recorded.

Style presets with dark backgrounds and contour-line texture are particularly suited to mountain and trail aesthetics. All elements are adjustable: route colour, line width, background, stat selection and headline text. Export a 300 dpi print-ready PDF for professional printing at A3, A2 or any standard poster size. No watermark, no sign-up required.

How it works

  1. 1

    Export your trail GPS file

After your trail run, download a GPX, TCX, FIT or KML file from Garmin Connect, Suunto, Coros, Strava, Wahoo or your GPS watch app. Look for an "Export" or "Download" option on the activity page.

  2. 2

    Style your poster

Upload the file and choose a preset. Adjust route colour, background, stats and headline. Dark contour-line styles often suit trail aesthetics particularly well.

  3. 3

    Download and print

Export a 300 dpi PDF or PNG. Take it to a professional print shop or upload to an online print service for a sharp, large-format poster.

Frequently asked questions

Does the editor handle trails with a lot of elevation change?
Yes. The route is drawn from GPS coordinates, not from a flat map, so steep switchbacks and ridge traverses render clearly as route lines. Elevation gain is also read from the file's altitude data and displayed as a stat if you choose.
Can I make a poster from a personal trail run, not a race?
Absolutely. Upload a GPX, TCX, FIT or KML file from any trail run — organised race, guided tour, or solo mountain adventure. The editor does not require the route to match a registered event.
Which background style suits a trail running poster?
The dark "Built by Discipline" preset with contour-line texture is popular for mountain trail runs. The "Earned, Not Given" gradient preset with its dark slate-to-black gradient also works well. All presets are fully customisable.
