How-to guide

How to make a poster from a GPX file

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the universal standard for sharing GPS tracks. Whether your file came from a Garmin, phone app, GPS logger, cycling computer, or any other device, if it contains GPS coordinates Route Posters can turn it into a poster. TCX, FIT, and KML files are also supported.

Supported file formats

Route Posters supports GPX, TCX, FIT, and KML files. GPX is the most widely compatible format — if your device or app gives you a choice, GPX is usually the safest pick.

Route Posters supports GPX, TCX, FIT, and KML files — the standard formats exported by GPS watches, cycling computers, and fitness platforms.

Step-by-step: from a GPX file to a printed poster

  1. 1

    Locate your GPS file

Find the GPX, TCX, FIT, or KML file on your computer or device. Most GPS apps and devices can export one of these formats — look for an "Export", "Download", or "Share" option in your app.

  2. 2

    Check the file

Make sure the file contains actual GPS track data (a route or recorded activity), not just waypoints. Most recorded activities will work fine.

  3. 3

    Open the Route Posters editor

Go to Route Posters and click "Create poster" to open the editor in your browser.

  4. 4

Drop the file into the editor

Drag and drop your GPX, TCX, FIT, or KML file onto the editor canvas, or click the upload area to browse for it. The editor parses your track and draws the route instantly.

  5. 5

    Customise your poster

Select a map style, template, and colour palette. If your file contains stats (distance, time, pace, elevation), they are read automatically and displayed on the poster.

  6. 6

    Download PNG or print PDF

Export a high-resolution PNG or a 300 dpi print-ready PDF sized for A3/A2 professional printing.
