A loop course starting and finishing in Silverton, Colorado, that traverses the rugged San Juan Mountains over roughly 100 miles, passing through Telluride, Ouray and the ghost town of Sherman. Runners cross thirteen mountain passes mostly above 12,000 feet, with the high point at the 14,048-foot summit of Handies Peak and an average elevation above 11,000 feet. The route is known for its extreme alpine terrain, scree, snowfields and stream crossings, and finishers traditionally kiss the Hardrock boulder at the finish.
