The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run course

The Western States 100 runs from Olympic Valley (formerly Squaw Valley) near Lake Tahoe to the finish on the Placer High School track in Auburn, California. The point-to-point Sierra Nevada course opens with a 2,550-foot climb to Emigrant Pass before descending through the rugged canyons of the American River, crossing the river and the historic No Hands Bridge late in the race. With roughly 18,000 feet of climbing and over 23,000 feet of descent on largely single-track trail, it is the oldest 100-mile trail race in the world.
