The Maratona di Roma course

The course starts and finishes on the Via dei Fori Imperiali beside the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, looping through the historic centre past landmarks including Piazza Venezia, the Circus Maximus, St Peter's and the Tiber riverbanks. The route is largely flat with a handful of short rises and tight turns, and sections of ancient cobblestone (sampietrini) that make it slower than a typical flat city marathon.
