The race starts and finishes inside the historic 1928 Olympic Stadium. Early on it passes through the Vondelpark and by the Rijksmuseum before heading south and out to the Amstel river, which runners follow out and back along both banks past stately houses and open countryside. The course is exceptionally flat and fast, with almost no significant elevation change throughout, and ends with a lap of the Olympic Stadium track.
