The course starts and finishes near the Erasmus Bridge (Erasmusbrug), crossing it early in the race, and runs flat, wide roads through the city of Rotterdam. It is regarded as one of the fastest marathon courses in the world, with minimal elevation change and long uninterrupted stretches that favour even pacing. The route has historically been the site of multiple world-best marathon times.
